When does the season start?
Border Towns regular
season runs from May to early September with playoffs in late September. Is Border Town accepting new teams in 2009?
There is very limited space available but we welcome new teams and individual
players and we encourage you
to contact us as soon as possible. ALL REGISTRATIONS ARE ACCEPTED ON A FIRST-COME,
FIRST-SERVE BASIS.
How many teams/divisions are there in
the Border Town Slo-Pitch League?
League can accommodate up to 20 teams. We currently have 15 teams divided into
two divisions, the East and the West. The East play at
Fleetwood on
Mondays and Tuesdays. The West play at
South Common on Mondays and
Wednesdays.
Where & when do you play?
Locations of Fields/Diamonds: We, given our relationship with the City of
Mississauga and the fact that our League has been active since 1990, have been afforded two of the best Ball Parks/Diamonds in Mississauga. We play on Mondays and Tuesdays (Fleetwood) and Mondays and
Wednesdays (South Common). Games times are: 6:15 pm, 7:45 pm and 9:15 pm
(15 minute grace).
The season opens the week starting on Monday, May 12, 2008 (ending 1st or 2nd week of
September; date dependent upon rain-outs and make-up games).
Both fields are machine groomed and equipped with night lighting. Fleetwood
has rest room facilities and South Common is equipped with an outdoor portable
toilet.
We do give the teams the option to choose preferred parks and nights and we
will try to accommodate teams as much as possible.
Complete kits will be provided, on or before the respective season starts
(Schedule, Rules & Regulations, Tournament Rules, Contact List, Permits, Maps,
Keys, etc.).

How many games per regular season?
and Playoffs?
Number of Games is commensurate with the number of teams. The
schedule has yet to be finalized but what we can tell you is the minimum will be
18 games and the maximum 20 games this season (20-game schedule in 2008 Season).
All playoffs are played on a weekend in September. On the Saturday,
3 (three) round robin games are played to determine your standings in your
division. On Sunday an elimination quarter-final, semi-final and
FINALS for the Championship and Consolation prize are played.
Team Structure?
Team roster/co-ed ratio: 10 fielding positions with a minimum of 2
females in the field at all times. Usually teams would have 14-15
regular roster players (with 4-5 females). Maximum
roster size is 20 players per team. Exceptions, however, are made if the team
wishes a larger roster.
BTSPL registers teams, not individuals. Individuals are welcome to inquire and we will do our best to connect you with teams needing players.
Keep in mind there is no player draft.
BTSPL is a recreational level slo-pitch league. Teams do range from
competitive and intermediate levels, with the majority of the teams at the
"E" or REC level. Please note, we do have many "C" level
individually skilled players, who have been with us for many years, but
softball after all, is a team sport, and the prevalent Border Town sentiment
is, ours is a fun league! The minimum age is 18 (eighteen) years of
age. With the incoming of new players every season, we have a good and
strong mix of younger and older experienced players in our league.
Average age is early to mid 30s.
What are the 2009 Team League Fees and what does it cover?
Team Registration cost (tba): Last last's league fee was $1350.
2009 League fees is still to be determined but should be between $1350-1450. Based on a team of 15 players, the cost is exponentially low at $90.00 per
player. This cost includes League Fees and Disbursements, accredited Slo-Pitch
Ontario affiliated carded Umpires, League/Team and Banquet Tournament Insurance
($5 million liability insurance coverage for each player on your Team), Team
Scorebook and SPO approved softballs.
Equipment?
Equipment (Bases, Bats, uniforms or team T-shirts) are supplied by each team
respectively. Please see www.slopitch.org for approved equipment.
Rules & Regulations?
Rules: Border Town adheres to Slo Pitch Ontario (SPOA) modified rules. Please
see http://www.slopitch.info/infomenu.htm?handbook/handbook.jpg for 2009 Rules
and Regulations (i.e. BTSPL utilizes a standard slo-pitch 6 to 12 foot arc;
called balls and strikes using a home plate mat).
