Joe DiMaggio once said when referring to Opening Day, “you look forward to it like a birthday party when you're a kid. You think something wonderful is going to happen.” I believe, all of us were part of something wonderful this 2009 Year-End Play-Off Tourney … filled with so many wonderful moments and thank you all for being such a pivotal and special of part of our 20th Anniversary. Tournament mode is where the real meat of the game is; we were delighted everyone was part of this all.

It is said baseball is made up of very few big and dramatic moments, but rather it's a beautifully put together pattern of countless little subtleties that finally add up to the big moment, and you have to be well-versed in the game to truly appreciate them.  It is my distinct honour to officially congratulate The 2009 BTSPL CHAMPIONS – THE BREWSTERS.

The FINAL CHAMPIONSHIP game, a hard-fought game, unbelievable highlight reel-like plays on both sides, we are talking major league level plays here folks! The X-MEN again, show us all again and again and again thru to the very last out, why they are 2006 & 2007 Champions.

The 2009 BTSPL CHAMPIONS – THE BREWSTERS, a team that has transformed itself over the years, from Boondock Saints (pre-2006), to the Buds (2006), to the Terrapins (2007), to the Brewsters (2008 & 2009) and now, 2009 BTSPL CHAMPIONS! A seemingly unstoppable team!

The Brewsters family is made up of:

Lynne T (Captain), John S, Hart G, Paulo S, Andrew K, Alvin & Mark A (as we all affectionately know and love as “the twins”), Mark & Mike V
Gord H, Len M, John P, Greg B, Diana M, Jamie S, William C, Shawn S, Kim T

SEPT. 27, 2009 - CHAMPIONSHIP AND CONSOLATION RESULTS

What can we say about our magnificent MIG Giants, who have come so very close every year, only to walk away thwarted. Baseball hall of famer, Mike Schmidt, once saidany time you think you have the game conquered the game will turn around and punch you right in the noseWe have two other beloved teams, that came so very close to the big show, only to fall just short.  Well, 2009 showed different;

congratulations to the MIG Giants, 2009 Consolation Champions

As you’ll see in the Championship Results attached The Stingers … what a worthy opponent, gave MIG a run for their money!  Stingers ~ congratulations, well done!

With each new season comes new surprises, new challenges and the unexpected turns and twists that highlight every year-end tournament. So many games finished within 1 run!

What a finish for the Gremlins ~ to reach the Championship Round only to face The 2009 East Division Champs, The Falcons. To put it into perspective, Gremlins were 10.5 games back of The Falcons at the end of the regular season and gave them a run for their money, an unbelievable feat. Congratulations Gremlins, Wow!

What can we say about the Meadowvale Blazers, The silent killers!  For the Average Joes to compete with this very Blazers team that beat The 2009 Finalists X-Men and The Brewsters, way to go Average Joes!

Manchester Brewers, well you were the talk the town in 2009!  Top tier teams always asking who are these Manchester Brewers, are they that good?! What an incredible season MB!

To the Hot Runners, we adore and congratulate you also.

Welcome again to the Border Town Family our new teams for 2009 FINALISTS we welcome you all:

PAST NEWS......

Current 2009 League Standings

Hot of the presses, 2009 Final Standings!! Thank you to all captains for forwarding your scores each and every week.

Losing only 3 games this season, it seems the defending 2008 Champions The Falcons aren’t ready to give up their title. Congratulations to The Falcons, 2009 East Division Champions. Superb job Falcons!

Of notable mention, The Brewsters, right on the Falcons’ tail, tied for First Place overall, overthrown only by run differential.  Congratulations Brewsters on a pheonomental season!

In 2008, losing 8 games, finishing 4th place overall and 6.0 games behind 1st place, under the leadership of Kevin Riggs and Dan Christopher, The Cold Shots never looked back this 2009 season, that is for sure!  Special congratulations go to the 2009 West Division Champions and 2009 OVERALL CHAMPIONS ~ The Cold Shots!!  Kudos Cold Shots to an outstanding season!!!

Thank you all Teams, all Captains, Co-Caps, Acting Captains, Reps, each and every one of you, congratulations on a very fine 2009 season!

PLAYOFFS AROUND THE CORNER....WHO'S GOING TO THE BANQUET?

Dear Captains, Co-Captains, Team Reps:

It is with great pleasure and on behalf of our 2009 BTSPL Banquet Executive Committee & Director, “K” Kolia, I would like to remind you to mark your calendars and inform all your players with the following event:

Saturday, Sept 19th, ! 2009

7:00 pm

Coach “K” has again secured for the ‘Sky Lounge’ for this year’s Border Town Pre-Playoff Banquet / Rally, (previously known as the Border Town Banquet), our 4th Annual BTSPL Banquet.

www.skyrestaurantlo unge.com

At this year’s Captain’s Meeting, it was decided that having a Pre-Playoff Banquet/Rally would be more exciting, and so it shall be!! Also, this year we are introducing, for the first time, awards for MVP’s for each team, (individuals who have shown outstanding performance throughout the season), as voted on by each Captain, Co-Captain, Team. As with previous years, as determined at the MVP Game (hopefully yet to be played out in September) we will be awarding a separate league MVP award, one representing the East Division and one representing the West Division. In addition, we will also have an award for the team who finishes 1st in their respective division. Our regular Championship, 2nd, 3rd and Consolation awards will be presented at the end of our Playoff Tourney the following weekend.

If our budget warrants, we aim, hope and are very excited to introduce a ‘Rookie of the Year’ award for both the East & West Division (a first timer who has shown increased improvement throughout the season), as voted on by the Executive Committee and Team Captains.

As discussed at our Captains meeting, this year, $270.00, (6 Banquet tickets @ $45.00 ea.), would need to be collected in advance of our Banquet … your advance purchase effectively demonstrates your team’s gracious commitment to the Banquet to the League. We will need to collect this fee and we will need also, know your numbers (team head count) NO LATER THAN AUGUST 31st. We will have the opportunity to add numbers but NOT deduct. Captain, Co-Captains, Reps, we make an earnest appeal, please respond and advise us of your intentions.

To serve as a reminder, each ticket includes all your drinks, both alcohol or non-alcoholic, as well as Dinner and Door prizes. Additional tickets can be purchased via email, (contact us for instructions) , but because of limited availability, (only 80 extra tickets), it will be on a first come first serve basis. For your convenie! nce the league can accept e-mail money transfers as well as personal and company cheques.

This year we are also proud to have with us, Master of Ceremony, Tom Ripley, a seasoned & experienced D.J., who will host a variety of events and contests, as well taking care of all our dancing needs.

Also, because our budget is limited, we would welcome any team that could donate items for additional door prizes. I’m sure most of us can round up something from either work or sponsors… and this would really help us with the festivities….

In closing, we would like to say that we anticipate everyone in attendance will experience an incredibly exciting & fun filled evening, ! and a great prelude to our eagerly awaited playoff tourney the following weekend, Saturday, September 26th and Sunday, September 27th, 2009 at “Dunton”!

Thank you for your prompt reply and cooperation.

On behalf of, “K” Kolia …

I remain, yours,

Ava
